AFTER months of speculation about whether or not Catherine McClements would be leaving Water Rats, it has finally been confirmed that the publicity-shy Logie Award-winner is hitting the road.

While the Nine Network remains silent on just how her well-liked character, Detective Rachel “Goldie” Goldstein will exit the popular series, a spokesperson did reveal that Catherine’s final episodes will be screened in September.

While the series successfully replaced Colin Friels, who played Detective Frank Holloway, with Steve Bisley’s Detective Jack Christey, the series is set for a major shake-up with Catherine’s departure.

At this stage, the most likely replacement for the leading-lady role is former Home And Away star Dee Smart, who has signed on for a couple of Water Rats episodes at the end of the current season. She’ll play an undercover cop named Alex Sinclair.

After finishing Water Rats, Catherine will return to her hometown of Melbourne while she considers a new TV project.
