Water Rats stars Raelee Hill and Jay Laga’aia are groovers at heart. When they’re not required on set, the pair loves nothing better than singing a few tunes as they cruise their way around Sydney Harbour.

Raelee and Jay have each record songs for a Water Rats CD, released this month. Not only is the CD a first for the series, it’s also full of original music written for the show.

Raelee says her song is a sultry number called Breathe.

“I was very lucky, as a complete amateur, to go in and work with these professionals,” she says. “I had no idea what I was doing, but it was great and certainly a challenge.”

Raelee says working with Jay helped her to relax, as they have already carried many tunes together.

“On the island (where we shoot Water Rats) we mess around all the time,” she says. “He’s a great musician and brings his guitar everywhere. We are always telling him to shut up … now I can fight him for the microphone.”

When it came time for Jay to cut his track, he chose one in keeping with his upbeat personality – a funky number called Let’s Party. He also completed a video clip, shot at a sleazy Sydney nightclub.

“It was a surprise to be asked to do this, but it’s also wonderful to get a chance to show that other side of your personality,” Jay says. “Music is a major part of my life and very important to me.”
